Nokia raves about new E-series phones

3GSM Nokia today officially announced the E61i, E65 and E90 Communicator handsets, all aimed primarily at the business user but with some consumer-friendly features too. The launch confirmed images and speculation on features which began to appear on the web about a week ago, as we reported.

Based on the S60 platform, the E90 is a revamped variation on the classic Communicator handset. Considerably thinner than the earlier versions - it's 13.2 x 5.7 x 2.0cm to the original's 14.8 x 5.7 x 2.5cm - this model features integrated GPS and map software, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity plus 3G HSDPA, a 240 x 320 pixels cover display and an 800 x 352 main screen. It has 128MB built-in memory with a MicroSD slot for more, and two cameras: a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera with flash, and a second camera for videoconferencing.

Nokia has launched three new mobile phones designed to please both the IT department and the business and mobile email user.

The E60, E61 and E70 are the first of the E-series and will be available in the first quarter of 2006. They run on Symbian operating systems and will work on GSM and 3G networks. They can also link to WLANs using Bluetooth and infrared. According to Nokia they are easy for IT departments to manage security settings, corporate apps and data.

Nokia said: "when developing these devices, two clear new trends emerged: the need for IT departments to have a secure and manageable platform, and the need for devices to support a variety of employee preferences and different working styles."

The E61, which looks like a PDA, has a full keyboard and joystick and will support many email clients including BlackBerry Connect, Goodlink, Seven Mobile Mail and Visto Mobile. Visto said the phones: "will meet the needs of business end users and the IT professionals that support them."

The E70 has a fold-out butterfly keyboard, full colour screen which can handle email and basic editing.

A lot of great and sleek-looking mobile devices have come out of the concept mode, as they were showcased at the 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona. Nokia has also kept up with this trend, as it announced a trio of new Nokia Eseries mobile devices, which have been designed especially for business professionals.

The three new Eseries mobile devices unveiled by the mobile phone giant are the slim Nokia E61i e-mailer device, the stylish Nokia E65 slider and the Nokia E90 Communicator. Each of these mobile devices is a feature-packed, design rich device that uses 3G and WLAN technologies, as well as the very flexible S60 software platform.

The Nokia E61i e-mailer device, as the name suggests has been designed mainly for extensive mobile e-mail usage. Above all, the E61i has a new full keyboard design with Navi and One Touch keys that make the mobile device very user-friendly. Besides, the Nokia E61i e-mailer device supports corporate mobil;e e-mail solutions like Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email, Good Mobile Messaging, Mail for Exchange, Seven Mobile Mail, and BlackBerry Connect. The Nokia E61i e-mail device also features a 2 Mega pixel camera, and a music and video player.

Next up is the Nokia E65 slider that features One Touch Keys on the front cover itself, making access to the most frequently used applications very easy. Besides, users can also make conference calls, access their contact database, mute and unmute calls, as well as access an application of choice through the ‘My Own’ key with just a push of the button.

Nokia Eseries & Alcatel OmniPCX

Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel capitalizes on the capabilities of the Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise as well as the power of Nokia Eseries. With the solution, popular desk phone functionalities are available to the mobile user. For example, employees manage just one business number, and control where and when and on which device they receive their calls. This 3G enabled phone has rich feature set including a 2.2-inch, QVGA (320×240) display, a 1 megapixel camera capable of taking 15 fps video, FM radio, a digital music player, and Bluetooth.

Nokia has announced their 6282 phone that is UMTS ready and will support the 1900MHz networks that will soon be available next year. This phone has a 1 megapixel camera, 2.2 inch QVGA screen, Bluetooth, FM radio, digital music player, and will run on the Series 40 Platform 3rd Nokia officially announced a handful of new 3G handsets today. The slickest one of the bunch is the 6282, a slider-style phone with GSM/EDGE 850/1800/1900MHz and UMTS 1900 (but not HSDPA!), a 2.2-inch, QVGA display, one megapixel digital camera, integrated FM tuner, Bluetooth, and an miniSD memory card slot. Should be available early next year, almost definitely from Cingular.

When the UMTS networks become available it will allow customers to access of number of 3G services including streaming multimedia audio and video content and the rapid download of large files including games, video and music.

Note that the Nokia 6282 was not officially annouced with the other Nokia slider phones, but this deviation is not a total shock, because it is likely true that Cingular is planning to release UMTS on the 1900 Mhz range in November - and there is obviously a need for compatible phones. This appears to be Nokia’s entry, and we think it’s a strong one.

It seems odd that the 6282 has a lower specification than the 6280, but perhaps this is just a question of market positioning and cost. Although the price of the 6282 hasn’t yet been confirmed, based on the price of the 6280 we would think that this handset would be about $500 before subsidy and taxes (compared to over $600 for the N80). The handset will be available sometime in 2006.

Designed with a stylish slide, the phone keeps the extra-large display in sight at all times, yet allowing it to remain ultra-compact while in the closed position. Furthermore, by positioning the imaging controls on the exterior, the Nokia 6282 immediately converts into a conventionally-oriented imaging device that captures 1 megapixel still images and 15 frame-per-second VGA video by using the screen as a horizontal viewfinder.

Since, the UMTS network is not available worldwide, users in America will relish to experience the fact of fast-speed 3G mobile interaction between users. The rest of us may have to envy or wait for the technology to be deployed.

Nokia has introduced a collection of three trend-inspired mobile phones, the Nokia 7360, Nokia 7370 and Nokia 7380. Each model in the L’Amour Collection offers a beautiful mix of contrasts infusing cultural and ethnic influences with luxurious touches of the unexpected. Hints of vintage and craftsmanship, are fused with natural materials, colours and patterns, all carefully crafted and layered with a passion for detail.

Ah, L’Amour. Don’t worry, we’re not waxing romantic on you, dear reader, but it’s certainly refreshing to see Nokia make another stab at a collection of slightly-unusual fashion phones with its 7360, 7370 and 7380 models - dubbed their L’Amour collection. Sindre Lia gets acquainted with the purportedly lavish 7380 top model, but alas it doesn’t quite seem to be a match made in heaven.

I came across an interesting product on Nokia’s website, the Nokia 7380 phone. As you can see in the images, the phone appears to have no keys. The Nokia 7380 does have a display screen, but it is mirrored so when not in use you can’t tell it is there. The Nokia 7380 does have the Nokia Navi Spinner for navigating the phones menu.

The world of Nokia Mobile Phones is so huge and vast. They create perfect mobile pieces according to the needs of their users. Frankly speaking, Nokia mobile phones are very much impressive and reliable. They all are filled with superb and all the latest technologies. I am a great fan of Nokia mobiles and like them very much. Last week, I went to a Nokia PriorityCenter to buy a perfect piece of Nokia for me. There, I found two handsets named Nokia 7500 and Nokia 7900 that captured my attention at once.

Both of the phones belong to the Prism family of Nokia. The Nokia 7500 is a Tri-Band GSM mobile phone with a 16M TFT Colour screen integrated in it. A 2MP camera, music player, video player and the connectivity options like GPRS,HSCSD, EDGE, Bluetooth and USB add to the flawless perfection to this handset. Whereas the Nokia 7900 is a 3G enabled Quad-Band GSM mobile phone that comes with an integrated 16M ColoursOLED Screen, a 2MP Camera, music player, video player, and connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, HSCSD, 3G, Bluetooth, and USB that add more worth to this handset.

Both of the devices are almost the same in size, colour, appearance, and presentation. However, the only difference between both of these devices is that the Nokia 7900 is a 3G enabled phone withOLED screen and 1GB of internal memory with no external memory support. Whereas the Nokia 7500 is not 3G enabled and uses TFT screen but supports memory cards as its external memory with the internal memory of 30MB. Friends, now I am in dilemma that which one to buy and which one to refuse. Please help me in finding the perfect Nokia Prism for me.

Europe : Nokia announced a new commercial DVB-H pilot in Stockholm with Teracom in Sweden. Nokia is supplying the Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 and Nokia N92 mobile ( above ) TV devices to the pilot which will last from October to December 2006 and includes 400 consumers. The project is a co-operation between ATG, Boxer, Nokia, Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television/UR, Telenor and Teracom.

The pilot participants will be able to watch fourteen TV channels and listen to four radio channels in the Stockholm city region, where a network has been built for high quality indoor and outdoor coverage. The objective is to evaluate what Swedish consumers think about commercial broadcast mobile TV.

ATG, Boxer, Sveriges Radio and Sveriges Television will provide content for the pilot. The test will be delivered using Nokia Mobile Broadcast Solution 3.0, and the pilot participants will use mobile devices from Nokia, the Nokia N92. Teracom will be responsible for the network, the broadcast and operating of the platform.

"We strongly believe in the capability of the DVB-H technology as well as in the mobile TV service, and we are looking forward to presenting the full potential and interest of broadcast mobile TV in Sweden," says Sigurd Leth, Multimedia Director for Nokia Nordic.

This is the second mobile TV pilot in Sweden where Nokia is one of the main suppliers of DVB-H technology. Last week, Nokia announced a new contract with TeliaSonera Sweden for a complete DVB-H pilot system, including Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 and Nokia N92 mobile TV devices, underpinned by Nokia's hosting and systems integration know-how.

DVB-H technology complements existing operator networks, optimizing capacity and quality. It offers consumers the chance to enjoy high quality terrestrial digital broadcasts along with voice telephony and internet access all in a single device. Broadcast mobile TV will offer new business opportunities for mobile service providers, content and broadcast companies, infrastructure and handset manufacturers as well as technology providers.

The feedback from different mobile TV pilots has been promising. Results from pilots on broadcast (DVB-H) mobile TV services amongst consumers in Finland, the UK, Spain and France have revealed clear consumer demand for such services as well as important indications over future business models for commercial mobile TV services.
